last night nanette held one of the most beautiful previews i’ve ever been to. in her home.
accessories and mini-cupcakes on the piano in the foyer. meats, olives, baguettes and cheese galore. a live dj. and swim
on the pool table. and the collection – the print perfect collection.
after previewing the collection, we took a tour of the breathtaking brownstone. we even took peek into nanette’s closet.
claire geist of de lune blog and rachel schwartzmann of le style child being so adorable
last week the website got a little upgrade. where the ss13 runway video once was, there is now a beautiful slideshow with some campaign image favorites. take a peek.
and would you look at that pantsuit… ;)
did you tune in for the first presidential debate last night? as always, i found it incredibly exciting.
if you follow nanette on instagram, you may have seen the scarf she designed for runway to win. runway to win
is a fundraising project by fashion designers in support of the obama victory fund. other items include a backpack
by chanel iman, onesies by beyonce and tina knowles, a bag by dvf – all under $100. below is nanette’s obama scarf.
what do you think?
in the end, it doesn’t matter who you vote for. just find your cause, be informed, and support.
the day of the show, it’s finally here. the morning of feelings are similar to those you get while you’re at school:
studying for a big exam, taking the exam, and the anticipation of being graded shortly after.
the morning started bright and early as the models trickled in. soon after a quick coffee, they were put into hair
& make-up. a lined top lid, pastel eyeshadow, and a nude lip worked well with the model’s hair teased into a
rapunzel-like ponytail. about a half hour before the show started, the models slipped into their ensembles and
found their place in the lineup.
the lights went down and coo’s were heard back stage from the brazilian girl’s front girl, sabina. the show had started.
each model strutted down the runway to the dreamy tunes. twelve minutes passed, the finale, a little dance from
nanette and violet, and the show was over. as the lights went down for a final time, nanette and violet made their way
backstage and violet reached for her mother and hugged her as if to say “i’m so proud of you.”
now that’s what we call a show.
i have been participating in new york fashion week since i first arrived to the city in august of 2010. most of the
help has been day of the show, though. being apart of a team unveils another dynamic that is often unseen to
the outside world.
the day before the show is a little… crazy. “thank you” bags for the models are being prepped, final looks with
accessories are double and triple checked before being bagged so they’re runway ready, nanette’s office is
abandoned as she’s running around the studio putting final touches on everything. the following photos are a
few of my favorites from around the studio the day before the show.
lately i’ve been overly obsessed with everything 90’s. embarrassingly enough, i’ve been watching buffy every
night and even wearing the harley t see below, that once belonged to my dad, to shreds. and when i become
obsessed, i go 110%. when i saw nanette’s golden touch skirt, knew it would pair perfectly with my dad’s old
harley t. and that it did. although nanette’s fall collection isn’t 90’s inspired, i found a way to make it work for
my current closet. all it takes is a little imagination and the courage to make something “you.” don’t be afraid
to mix and match – that’s what makes styling exciting and fresh.
ps. how cute is the button detail on the back?
going out for fno? consider dropping by one of our stores. there will be some champagne sipping, mystery
boxing, and a lot of dancing. it’ll be a good time – i guarantee it.
pssst. if you’re in boston, it’ll be an extra special night. i heard nanette is teaming up with rue la la.
